Jassango Theatre presents Geraldine Aron's
MY BRILLIANT DIVORCE

COMEDIC TREAT FOR THEATRE-GOERS! HIT NATIONAL TOUR COMES TO VENUE RATOATH….

My brilliant divorce

Jasango Theatre are back with a bang this season with a new production of Geraldine Aron’s hilarious My Brilliant Divorce. Following their astounding success with Bombshells - including a two-year tour of Ireland, a summer residency at Fota House, and an American tour culminating in awards for Best Play and Best Ensemble in the 2010 Bethlehem Press Awards - Jasango are on track for another hit with this wittily observant and achingly funny play. Jasango are at The Venue Theatre, Ratoath for one night, Friday 10th February, and the travelling troupe look forward to raising the roof with laughter!

Meet Angela Lipsky, once half of Angela and Max, the world's happiest couple. That was before Max (affectionately nicknamed "Roundhead") unexpectedly dumps her and runs off with Rosa, a young Mexican woman who barely speaks a word of English! Join Angela on her poignant and hilarious journey as she rebuilds her life, finding herself adrift in asea of weird sexual encounters, sneaky solicitors, phone-in counsellors, a bad case of hypochondria and the spectre of poverty. We follow her progress from messy marital break-up to a full divorce. Along the way we meet an array of extraordinary characters. These include daughter Vanessa, foreign cleaning ladies Meena and Leena, Ms Chang, Max/ Roundhead, Bibi from Brooklyn New York, Dr Stedman, Jake the Vietnam Veteran, Finlay the slightly camp Londoner, Mr Glute the chemist, Mr Tripp, Julie, Sylvie, Melody-Ann, Dr Epstein, and many others.

My Brilliant Divorce had its World Premier at the Apollo Theatre, London in 2001 and went on to be nominated for an Olivier Award, selling out theatres all over the world. Laugh out loud comedy, combined with heart-wrenchingly honest moments, make this an unforgettable show that both engages and entertains. The title role is played by another Angela; Angela Ryan, co-founder of Jasango Theatre. Angela completed an Honours MA in Drama and Theatre Studies at NUI Galway and worked in professional theatre and film for ten years before establishing Jasango with Jasmin Finn in 2009.
My Brilliant Divorce is an acting tour-de-force that highlights Ryan’s incredible energy and range as she swaps roles and accents at break-neck speed. Critics have commended her previous work.

Jasango Theatre (Juicy Artful Sensual Alive Nimble Genuine Original) was founded in 2009 as a collaborative, multi-disciplinary company, bringing together musicians, visual artists and theatre practitioners to create fresh, multi-dimensional theatrical events. My Brilliant Divorce comes to The Venue Theatre as part of a national tour taking in over 30 Irish venues.

A Romantic Evening in Ratoath Dinner and Show for Valentines with Mary Coughlan in Concert

Mary Coughlan

Mary Coughlan's autobiography 'Bloody Mary' was released & published by Hachette Books and has since become a bestseller. In this funny, moving and typically outspoken memoir, Ireland's best-loved jazz singer pulls no punches in describing her redemption from alcoholism and drug addiction and gets to the heart of what made Mary so contrary.

2010 was the 25th anniversary of Mary Coughlan's seminal album 'Tired and Emotional' which was Ireland's biggest selling album in the year of release and is now 7 times platinum. Mary is playing a selection of dates offering the unique opportunity to see her performing songs from the new album as well as a selection of material spanning her whole career.

An Irish theatrical torch-blues legend, Mary's acclaimed latest album is 'The House of Ill Repute'. The album was promoted alongside the release of her autobiography 'Bloody Mary' when she embarked on a UK tour. Mary then travelled to Australia again the following summer and played a sold-out night at the Sydney Opera House theatre and two festivals in New Zealand. Mary is playing Irish dates in 2012 when she will tell her unique story in her inimitable style through the many songs she has recorded over the last 25 years.

David McSavage

David Mc Savage

SATIRIST, stand-up and street performer David McSavage may be the brother of former Fianna Fail TD Barry Andrews and first cousin of Ryan Tubridy, but he's the last man on earth to suck up to his high-profile relatives.
Both come in for a savaging. Ryan gets a roasting for his young fogey persona, with McSavage branding him a "skinny p***k".
Meanwhile, David claims that brother Barry was always the favorite son. He certainly doesn't appear to display much sympathy over Barry recently losing his seat.
This is bread and butter stuff for a comic that has consistently proven to be an agent provocateur. McSavage recently rose to prominence thanks to the sharp and often hilarious satire of his successful TV series 'The Savage Eye'. Despite this achievement, David lampoons being critically acclaimed, pouring scorn on other shows that get higher ratings.
If this all sounds like he's a bit of a depressive crank, then it must be said that more often than not McSavage is brilliantly and wickedly funny. His Pat Kenny impersonation and anecdotes about being a 'Late Late Show' warm-up are absolutely priceless.
Despite frequent bouts of being borderline obnoxious, McSavage comes across as a likeable fellow. He is viciously self-deprecating, and employs the trick of using a persona to articulate some of his more risqué and quite frankly unrepeatable material. It's a vast improvement from shows in previous years that could be frustratingly hit or miss.
McSavage's low-key but effective stage manner, gently strumming a guitar as he departs on numerous flights of whimsy, works brilliantly. His laid-back and laconic style provides a nice contrast to the screaming egomaniacs one often encounters at stand-up shows. McSavage has unexpectedly come out of the cold of perpetually being an outsider, and has somehow graduated into Irish comedy's small elite.

Winding Wheel Productions Presents

Songwriters' Circle

feat:

Luan Parle, Matt Andersen & Q aka Colm Quearney

Saturday 3rd March 2012

songwriters

Our "An Evening With.." series has so far brought sold out shows by The Webb Sisters & Janis Ian to Ratoath (with Declan O'Rourke on the way!). Now we can reveal our newest series, Songwriters' Circle. The series features 3 amazing singer-songwriters playing and talking, in turn, about their songs and the tracks that have inspired them throughout their career. With these three artists unlikely to ever share the same stage again, it's a unique show that you will only get one chance to see.

I'm delighted to announce Luán Parle, Matt Andersen and Q aka Colm Quearney as the first three artists in the series. Luán Parle is a Meteor Award Winner (Best Irish Female) and her most recent album, "The Full Circle" received a glowing four star review in Hot Press, was featured as RTE Radio 1's 'Album of the Week' and the lead single "Why Baby Why" featured as Ian Dempsey's 'Song of the Week' on Today FM.

Matt Andersen will be playing in Ireland for the first time and I'm honoured that Ratoath will be his first Irish stop. Called "Canada's greatest guitarist" by the UK Times, his most recent album was produced by the legendary Colin Linden and featured the Band keyboardist Garth Hudson and Olabell singer Amy Helm. You have to hear this guy, he's going to blow the roof off the theatre.

Q aka Colm Quearney, has been a key figure in the Irish music scene for almost 20 years now. In the '90s he earned his medals by being the guitarist and songwriter with two of Ireland's most daring bands - Dragonfly and Lir ; and in the last decade he has released three wonderful solo albums. For quality musicianship, look no further than Q, whose guitar playing will bring the show to another level.

JIMMY CROWLEY IN CONCERT

Cork’s Legendary Singer/Songwriter Jimmy Crowley with play Ratoath Theatre on Friday 9th March 2012, as part of his “Irish Eyes” Spring Tour 2012 with The Blue Macushlas, the band that Jimmy has formed for this exciting divergence from his folk repertoire. The Blue Macushlas are Australian Jazz Guitariest Ian Date, Pat McNamara on accordion, Brian Crowley (Jimmy’s nephew) on bass and Jimmy on vocals, folk guitar and bouzouki.

“An unCorked bottle of delight overflowing with good spirits, effervescent vocals and brimfull of good bouzouki and guitar playing.” - Dirty Linen

Having just released his thirteenth album “Irish Eyes” which breathes an uncommon freshness into jaded classics like Danny Boy, When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Who Put the Overalls in Mrs Murphy’s Chowder and The Isle of Innisfree from the movie, The Quiet Man, you will be able to catch a glimpse of Crowley magically performing these songs not in the dinner-jacket fomulaic style of the classic Irish tenor nor yet in the un-convincing pecuniary whine of the Showbander; but rather in the relaxed way his hero Willie Nelson did the American standards on his Stardust album.  Whilst Jimmy is best known for his folk/Trad style ballads; on this occasion Jimmy has added the jazz chords soffused with caressing French accordion with the keening lap-steel and the Djanjo inspired guitar putting his own unique style to these beautiful almost forgotten songs.

Venue Manager Nick Killian stated "I am look forward to having Jimmy Crowley and The Blue Macushlas featured in the Venue Ratoath Ratoath on Friday March 9th, 2012".

So all you Cork people living in Meath come along and meet the man himself.

The Venue Theatre proudly presents Declan O'Rourke

Declan O'Rourke

O’Rourke has been through the major label mill and come out the other side – smiling (eventually!), we’re glad to say.

“I had a great relationship with the people who worked with me on the first two records,” he admits. “I’d been reading for years about people having control of their own music, so I felt it was time to start. I’m sure I’ve made the right decision.”

He’s a free man, then, with a free frame of mind, and a new record label he can, quite literally, call his own. And on his new record label he releases his third album and first independent offering, MAG PAI ZAI, which sees him maturing as a songwriter in ways he would, most likely, have never thought possible.

MAG PAI ZAI, released in April '11, managed to top the success of Declan's first two albums, holding its own in the top 10 for four consecutive weeks. 'A Little Something,' the album's debut single, received much airplay, climbing to the no. 2 spot in the Today FM Top 40. Both singles released to date, 'A Little Something,' and 'Time Machine' were Single of the Week.

Declan recently performed 'A Little Something,' and 'Galileo' from his debut album, at the BBC Last Night of the Proms with the Ulster Orchestra in Castle Park, Bangor.

Word is getting out, slowly but very surely, about Declan O’Rourke’s songwriting skills. Don’t be the last to find out.
